AI and Social Media: Everything You Need To Know

written by a real person—BTW

Ever since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, it’s been said that AI will replace humans. Well, two years later and I still seem to have my job. Who would have thought—we’re still putting our brains into our content creation. Why? We’ll get into that later.
Let’s look at the bright side first…

What are the benefits of using AI for Social Media?

There’s no denying that AI has made a big impact, especially when it comes to creating AI Social Media Content. Here’s why businesses are loving it:

1. CONTENT CREATION ON AUTOPILOT

Imagine being able to generate social media posts in seconds, from captions and blog posts to images and videos. Whatever you need—there’s probably an AI software for it. These tools use algorithms to understand your brand’s tone, target audience, and preferences, saving you tons of time.

2. AUTOMATION = CONSISTENCY

AI tools like Hootsuite or Buffer allow you to schedule posts across different platforms, ensuring that your content goes out consistently. Consistency is key in social media, and AI helps you maintain a steady stream of posts even during busy times.

3. CUSTOMER SUPPORT 24/7

AI chatbots have become increasingly popular for offering 24/7 customer support. Whether it’s answering FAQs or helping customers navigate a purchase, chatbots like ManyChat allow brands to interact with customers at any time of day.

Why you should be cautious using AI in Social Media

Thought robots were flawless? Think again! While AI has come a long way, it still has its drawbacks. Just like the name says, AI is artificial—lacks emotion and creativity. Here are some disadvantages to keep in mind:

1. LACK OF HUMAN EMOTION

AI can mimic human language, but it doesn’t feel emotions the way people do. As a result, its content can sometimes lack the warmth and personality that human-written posts bring. Brands relying too heavily on AI may come across as robotic or impersonal.

2. CREATIVITY IS LIMITED

AI is amazing at analyzing data, but creativity? Not so much. Essentially AI is just reusing content that is already out there. So AI-generated posts can start to sound repetitive over time, lacking the creativity and originality that really engages an audience.

3. OVER-RELIANCE CAN HURT

If your entire social media strategy revolves around AI, it might disconnect you from your audience. Your followers want to feel like they're engaging with real people, not AI.

Unfortunately there’s not only disadvantages, there’s also risks to using AI...

The (Legal) Risks of Using AI Generated Social Media Content

This is a big one! As already mentioned in the disadvantages, the creativity of AI is limited. Essentially AI works by repurposing what already exists. That being said, using AI also comes with certain legal and ethical risks, which businesses need to be aware of.
A little disclaimer—we are not lawyers and this is not legal advice in any sort or form, however we just wanted to make you aware of some risks.

1. DATA PRIVACY CONCERNS

AI-driven tools often collect and analyze large amounts of personal data to offer personalized experiences. However, with stricter data privacy regulations (like GDPR), you need to ensure you're using data responsibly and legally.

2. COPYRIGHT ISSUES

AI tools generate content, but who owns it? Depending on the tool you’re using, the content created may not legally belong to your brand, raising copyright issues. Along with checking the licensing agreements of AI platforms you use, always review AI-created content for originality and compliance.

How can I tell if content was AI generated?

Now that there are AI Tools for every need, and the popularity of using AI in content creation is rising, it can be very tricky to tell if you’re consuming human-written or AI-generated content. Grammar, wording, accuracy and realism can be indications to ai generated content. These are some telltale signs we like to look out for:

  1. Repetitive or Generic Phrases: If we read the words like “unleash” one more time… oh boy. AI-generated content often uses repetitive sentence structures or overly generic language. AI content often lacks a natural flow, originality and variation only a human can achieve.

  2. Overuse of Keywords: AI tends to over-optimize content by squeezing keywords everywhere, aiming to improve SEO rankings. This often makes the text feel less natural.

  3. Limited Creativity: AI struggles to come up with original content, metaphors, and pop-culture. If the content is missing depth, creativity, or emotion—either the creative team has no sense of humor and emotion or you might be dealing with AI generated content.

  4. Unrealistic or Incorrect Information: While AI is good at data collection, it sometimes pulls outdated, irrelevant, or incorrect information without properly validating it. So make sure you check your content before you publish it.

  5. Accuracy and Realism: AI-generated videos and images often have noticeable flaws. When creating content, AI makes errors due to its inability to think independently. Common issues are odd-looking hands, teeth, fonts, or illogical elements like two faucets but no sink.

If you’re still suspicious about content, there are several tools that help you detect AI generated content and plagiarism.

What to consider when using AI for Social Media

Now, let’s get to the exciting part—how you can use opportunities on social media.

SOCIAL MEDIA WITH AI:

Content Generation: From AI-powered writing tools, like Jasper or ChatGPT, helping you create captions, blog posts, and even long-form content to image or video generation AI tools like Midjourney and Runway—there’s a tool for everything.

Fun and Engaging Filters: Snapchat dog filter, TikTok beautification filter, greenscreen filter, voice filter… this list goes on. TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat have used AI-powered AR filters to help brands connect with audiences in an interactive way.

Automation Workflow: Comment “Love” if you want to… behind getting that prompt reply or freebie are AI tools like Manychat. Automating repetitive tasks like scheduling posts or replying to common queries using AI frees up time, so you can focus on more strategic aspects of your brand.

SOCIAL MEDIA WITHOUT AI:

Human Creativity: Nothing replaces the human touch. Authentic and creative content that tells your brand story will always be valuable and irreplaceable—especially in an era where consumers crave real connections.

Engagement Over Automation: Focus on building relationships with your audience through direct interaction. Respond to comments, ask questions, and engage in real conversations with your followers.

Strategic Planning: Without AI, you'll need to lean into social media strategy more—developing content calendars, monitoring analytics manually, and adjusting tactics as you learn from your audience.

What is our take on AI and Social Media?

We can’t believe how far technology has come. And we have to admit—we are using AI-powered tools ourselves to save time on repetitive tasks such as scheduling.
We know AI can craft content within seconds, however we don’t think it has the power to replace humans—at least not in social media. And if you ask us, no matter how great the prompts, it won’t ever be original content! Let’s be honest, consumers use social media for the social side—seeing authentic and relatable content.
